About the Author & Illustrator

Mixie Dee began with my eldest daughter, who loved filming herself mixing random ingredients together and proudly rating the results on her own "Yucky Meter". What started as a fun way of encouraging her to try new foods and ingredients soon made me realise those videos captured exactly what children enjoy: experimenting, making mistakes, laughing and trying again. That's where the idea for Mixie Dee the Mixer-Upper Fairy first began. As a father of two and a primary school governor, I've seen how much children learn through laughter, curiosity and play. That became the heart of the series. Rather than teaching lessons directly, every story is designed to entertain first, with vocabulary, listening, problem solving and creativity developing naturally through the adventure.Although this is my first picture book series, Mixie Dee has been planned from the outset as a six-book collection with long-term publishing, licensing and media potential.

Caroline Ascroft is the imaginative illustrator behind Mixie Dee's magical adventures. As a mum of two, she pours her love for storytelling, creativity and visual delight into every page.Drawing on her extensive experience running an interior design and decoration company, Caroline has helped in making the vision a reality with her input and wonderful illustrations richly detailed for young readers in mind.

The Original Mixie Dee

Before Mixie Dee became a picture book character, she was a real little girl with a big imagination.
Meet Devya, my eldest, she used to loved creating YouTube videos where she'd mix together unusual foods and ingredients before bravely tasting the results and scoring them on her own "Yucky Meter". What started as a fun way to encourage her to try new foods gradually became the inspiration for Mixie Dee, the well-meaning fairy who always mixes things up.
Today, Devya is 13 and still enjoys performing, modelling and creating content, but those early videos are the origins of Mixie's magical journey.

For Agent & Publishers

Mixie Dee is a six-book picture book series for children aged 3+ about a well-meaning fairy from the magical land of Whimsy-Wobble who causes escalating comic chaos by getting everyday words gloriously wrong. She mishears them, misreads them and takes language hilariously literally.Think of it as the warmth and charm of Amelia Bedelia, reimagined for today's picture book audience. However rather than just misunderstanding instructions, Mixie misunderstands the words themselves. Ask her for eggs and she'll arrives with chocolate Easter eggs. Mention flour and she magically conjures flowers.Unlike Amelia Bedelia, Mixie visits a different child in a completely new setting in every book, giving the series a fresh premise each time while keeping the same humour and instantly recognisable format. The series has been planned from the beginning with longevity in mind. Like the Ten Little books, it follows a strong repeatable formula built around a distinctive central character with real licensing potential. All six titles are fully mapped out and every story finishes with a hands-on activity that takes the fun beyond the final page and gives families something to enjoy together. The complete manuscript for Book One, Mixie Dee and the Magical Cake Mix-Up, is available on request, along with a full Series Bible covering all six planned titles.Email: [email protected]
